Celebrating our “Most Inspirational Secondary School Teacher” at North East STEM Awards
We are thrilled to announce that Mrs Sumeena Razzaqi, a dedicated teacher at Newminster Middle School, has been awarded the prestigious title of Most Inspirational Secondary School Teacher at the 2024 North East STEM Awards!
The annual STEM Awards, hosted by the STEM Hub, recognise individuals, schools, and organisations across the region who are passionate about igniting a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the next generation.
This year's ceremony celebrated the incredible commitment and innovative approaches that are shaping the future of STEM education and opportunities in the North East.
Mrs Razzaqi's recognition highlights her outstanding dedication to fostering a vibrant and engaging STEM learning environment at Newminster Middle School. Her passion and creativity in the classroom inspire students to explore the exciting possibilities within STEM subjects.
Mrs Razzaqi says, “I was absolutely humbled and delighted to have received the Most Inspirational Secondary Teacher Award. The award is a celebration of the many successful working partnerships that we have with STEM Ambassadors, both past and present. Our STEM programme would not be possible without the support of STEM Ambassadors- they help to bring learning to life and raise the science capital.”
A Commitment to Deep STEM Exploration
The STEM Programme initiative put in place at Newminster Middle School was referenced in the award. This initiative ensures that every pupil participates in a minimum of 25 STEM workshops throughout their time at the school.
These workshops are facilitated by esteemed ambassadors from diverse sectors, including higher education, the Environment Agency, the NHS, the energy sector, and the automotive industry. Through this multifaceted program, students gain exposure to various STEM fields, igniting their curiosity and helping them discover their talents and interests.
Mrs Razzaqi comments, “The work that we do is crucial in addressing the gender stereotypes and misconceptions which are often seen with STEM subject uptake. Raising aspirations and widening horizons is also a key driver. We hope that the STEM enrichment programme plays an important role in social mobility by empowering pupils to explore careers that they may not have previously considered.”
This approach can play a significant role in promoting social mobility, ensuring that our students have the knowledge and confidence to pursue fulfilling careers in STEM fields.
Congratulations once again to Mrs Sumeena Razzaqi! Her dedication and innovative teaching methods are a true inspiration to her students and colleagues alike. We at Cheviot Learning Trust are incredibly proud of her achievement and the impact she continues to make on the future of STEM education.
