Highfield Middle School Maintains ‘Good’ Ofsted Rating

Highfield Middle School is celebrating after a recent Ofsted inspection in March 2024 confirmed its status as a ‘Good’ school.  

The report highlights several strengths that contribute to a positive learning experience for pupils.

Highfield Middle School Strengths

The Ofsted inspection noted that Highfield Middle School fosters a culture of achievement, where students are regularly recognised for their accomplishments, efforts, and contributions to the school community. 

In addition, the report noted how it was clear that the school provides a wide range of enrichment activities complementing the curriculum, helping students explore new talents and interests and develop into well-rounded individuals. This includes the annual residential trips and a varied careers program to broaden students' horizons and raise aspirations for the future. 

The Ofsted inspection noted how an outdoor classroom further enriches the learning experience and the school in general had a calm and respectful atmosphere allowing students to develop resilience and ambition.

Highfield Middle School staff members were commended in the Ofsted report, noting how they create a safe and supportive environment where students feel secure and known. Specifically, Ofsted noted that bullying is rare, and the school actively promotes inclusion through initiatives like Equality Stars, Sports Leaders, and peer mentoring programs. 

It is specifically commended how Highfield Middle School works closely with other local schools to ensure a smooth transition for students moving between institutions. 

Headteacher Richard Oades comments on the inspection and report saying: 

“We are very pleased with the content of the report and the fact that we continue to be a 'Good' school.

We are particularly pleased that the report reflects the safe, supportive and inclusive environment we have created at Highfield, with strong relationships between staff and pupils and high expectations for all, both personally and academically.”
