Understand how we operate

Governance Recruitment

We are seeking to appoint additional Trustees.  Join us and help impact the life chances of all of our students!

Our Board of Trustees has a clear focus on raising standards, encouraging innovation and strengthening the ethos, vision and values of the Trust to ensure that we have a positive impact on all our young people. The Board provides effective support and challenge to ensure that we continue to strive for and secure excellence by developing strategic partnerships to improve quality, share best practice and operate effectively and efficiently.

We are looking to appoint up to four new trustees.  Ideal candidates will strongly align with the Trust’s values and ethos.  All trustees should have a clear interest in, and passion to support, education though it is understood they may not have worked in the education sector before, nor have pre-existing knowledge or experience. If they have, this would be advantageous rather than essential.

We are ideally seeking candidates with skills in these areas:

Human Resources – the trust is implementing a new HRIS in 2024 and would welcome the insight, challenge and guidance from an experienced professional in HR. Embedding our wellbeing strategy is also a key focus;

Legal – this is a core competence in all of the Board’s activity, and the Trust would welcome additional experience in this area

Strategic Leadership – to help guide the trust in its next phase of growth;

Communications - to help in the promotion of the trust’s ethos, attracting pupils and staff, and maintaining transparency with stakeholders

Digital Transformation - guidance from an experienced professional to support the trust’s integration of technology to enhance learning and operational efficiency.

STEM/Arts - to ensure a balanced curriculum, addressing the importance of innovation and creativity in developing well-rounded students prepared for future challenges

Lived Experience - trustees with lived experience bring a unique and valuable perspective, fostering inclusivity, understanding the diverse challenges faced by students and staff, and enriching decision-making processes with real-world insights

People from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Trust boards should represent the communities they serve, as well as wider society. We welcome interest from underrepresented groups to ensure academy trust boards are diverse in background, skillset, and thought.

Diversity is a powerful instrument for effective governance. Trustees are required to make choices that impact the daily lives of children, from school finance all the way through to staff and pupil recruitment. It’s essential that boards possess a broad set of beliefs, experiences, and ideas to inform their final judgements. We believe that true representation at board level enables all children to fulfil their potential.

Trustee Recruitment Pack

We are seeking to appoint new governors for our School Governing Boards. Join us and help make a positive difference to Cheviot Learning Trust’s children and young people!

At the heart of all of our schools is a team of school governors who are part of the School Governing Board (SGB). Whilst it is our Trustees who are ultimately responsible for the Trust, they firmly believe that our schools need School Governing Boards to support and act as the ‘critical friend’ to senior leaders. In short, governors are the eyes and ears of the Board!

The Learning Trust has a relentless drive to challenge, develop and innovate to ensure that each school’s provision enables students to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. We are recruiting potential Governors who share the same vision and values, as well as the time and commitment to help us on our journey. Whilst we seek a diverse range of governance volunteers, we would be especially interested to hear from you if you have knowledge and experience of special educational needs.

Being a Governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role and it will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. Our recruitment pack will tell you more about the role.

Everyone on Board

We support Inspiring Governance’s ‘Everyone on Board’ campaign. Watch the Everyone on Board video on their Youtube channel to hear what inspired other governance volunteers to get on board and the benefits they get from their role.

The campaign highlights that people of colour and young people are often underrepresented as governors. We aim to ensure diverse voices are heard and contribute to decision-making in our Trust so, if you have the skills and commitment to help develop our future generations, then why not get on board with us as a governance volunteer?
